What are veneers?

Veneers are wafer-thin and translucent ceramic shells. They are applied as a translucent and wafer-thin shell with a special adhesive on the tooth surface, mainly on the front teeth. They can be used in a variety of cosmetic dentistry procedures such as to fix chipped teeth, misalignments and gaps between teeth.

Why veneers are a popular choice for a smile makeover

Veneers are fast becoming a staple in cosmetic dentistry. Whether you have chipped, cracked, discoloured or crooked teeth, veneers are an efficient and cost-effective way to correct your smile without having to undergo complicated orthodontics. They are easy to bond over your existing teeth and can be adjusted to match your natural smile and give you the result you want. Given the many benefits - from longevity to comfort to overall beauty - it's no wonder so many people choose porcelain veneers when it comes to enhancing their smile.

How veneers are made and fitted

At the start of the session, a small amount of tooth enamel is ground off each tooth to ensure the veneer fits comfortably and doesn't look bulky. An impression is then taken of the teeth, which is sent to a laboratory where the veneer is made according to the measurements taken. When it is ready, it is sent back and has to be checked for colour and fit before it is bonded on with a special resin cement. Finally, the veneer is polished and ground until it shines like normal enamel.

What are they good for?

Dental veneers are a great way to achieve the perfect look for your teeth. They offer so many advantages over other cosmetic treatments because they can correct common dental problems in one simple procedure - from discolouration and chipping to gaps and mismatched sizes. They are also less costly than dental crowns and bridges. Veneers not only improve the appearance of your teeth but are also permanently bonded to the tooth surface to protect it from bacteria and wear. With regular brushing and flossing, they will look natural and healthy for years.

What disadvantages do they bring?

Veneers are a popular cosmetic procedure to improve the appearance of teeth, but they also have potential disadvantages. One disadvantage can be the cost. Because professional placement requires multiple visits and careful placement, the process can be costly. It is also important to remember that veneers are permanently bonded to the teeth, so any underlying problems with the teeth will remain after they are placed.

How to care for your veneers

Taking care of your porcelain veneers is very important if you want them to last. Make sure you avoid foods and drinks that could stain or damage your veneers, such as red wine or coffee. These staining agents can permanently alter the colour of the veneers. When caring for your teeth, brush them twice a day as usual, but be gentler when brushing the area around the veneers. Finally, you should have a check-up at least every 6 months to make sure they stay healthy.

How much will a Hollywood smile with veneers cost you?

The cost of veneers in Switzerland can vary depending on the type of veneer, the complexity of the procedure and other factors. In general, the cost of veneers ranges from CHF 400 to CHF 1000 per tooth.

Are you unsure whether bleaching or veneers is the right choice for you?

First, we will briefly show you the differences between the two methods so that you can get an idea of the two.

Bleaching

Teeth whitening procedures lighten your teeth by removing stains and discolouration. They can be done at home or in a studio and is safe for most people. However, teeth whitening does not cover dental implants or imperfections on the surface of the teeth and is therefore not recommended for people with extensive dental work, fillings or problems such as chips or cracks. In addition, the results of teeth whitening vary from person to person and are not always permanent.

Veneers

If your teeth are damaged, discoloured or misaligned and you're looking for a quick and effective way to fix them, veneers could be the right choice for you. They can improve the appearance of your smile by hiding imperfections, and are also durable and easy to maintain. However, they are not suitable for everyone and require special care once they are in place.

As you can see, both methods have their advantages and disadvantages. However, whitening is possible in both cases. In the end, however, it is your dental situation and wishes that determine which option you should choose. If you have misaligned teeth or want a new beautiful smile, veneers are more likely to be recommended. However, if the colour of your teeth bothers you, you want to get rid of discolouration and you want to whiten your teeth, bleaching is sufficient and also cheaper.
